Winners have been announced in the first annual Rio Vista Fund contest to recognize outstanding equine and canine rescue agencies.

Victoria Goss and Last Chance Corral of Athens, Ohio, won the Agency award for their work saving 200 slaughter-bound foals.

Deborah Galt, of Rustburg, Va., won the Individual award for work with an ex-jumper whose leg is fitted with a prosthesis. Galt and the horse tour children's hospitals on the East Coast.

Each winner received an engraved sculpture (shown), a check for $2,500, and unlimited supplies of Rio Vista products. The Santa Maria, Calif.-based company sets aside a portion of each product sale for the benefit of mistreated, neglected, or abused animals. Grants are made regularly to rescue organizations.
