Webinars/Horse Courses FAQ

General Video FAQ

What kind of videos does TheHorse.com have in the Video Library?

Currently we have videos in six areas:

  1. Ryder Reports (weekly video broadcast of horse health news by our news editor Erin Ryder)
  2. News/Interviews
  3. How-To
  4. Webinars (online, interactive seminars on a particular topic with live questions and answers during the live broadcast)
  5. Horse Courses (online video seminar on a particular topic)
  6. Vet Procedures (don't try this at home!)

Are the videos free?

Yes they are! We hope you enjoy them.

Do I have to be registered and logged in to watch videos?

You only have to be logged in to watch the Webinars and Horse Courses. Please see the Webinars/Horse Courses FAQ below for more information.

What kind of software/computer specifications do I need to watch the videos?

Our videos are Flash videos that play within your web browser. If you're having trouble watching the videos, you might need to download the latest version of Flash Player.

Generally speaking, the faster Internet connection, more computer memory (RAM), and faster processor you have, the better your experience with video will be (videos will start playing quicker and won't hesitate much during playback). That's not to say that you can't watch video on an older, slower computer or with a slow connection, just that you might need more patience to do so.

Minimum Requirements: Any System
• 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM- 512 MB recommended
• Broadband Internet connection or access to a high-speed network highly recommended
• Speakers/headphones
Flash Player 8+
Windows Specifics
• Microsoft Windows®: 2000 or XP
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 6/7 or Firefox 1.0/1.5/2.0
Macintosh Specifics
• Mac OSX 1.3 "Panther"
• Mac OSX 1.4 "Tiger"
• Safari 2.0, or Firefox 1.0/1.5/2.0

I can't get the videos to play. Help!

First make sure you're using the latest version of Flash Player. Second, if you're trying to watch the videos on a work computer, note that some corporate networks and Internet Service Providers block video transmissions. If you can't see any video clips, you may want to contact your Internet Service Provider or Network Administrator to see if a security firewall is blocking videos.

If you've got the latest players and firewalls aren't an issue, but you still can't watch our videos, tell us what's going on and we'll try to get it sorted out.

Why do video clips sometimes stop or pause?

The most common cause of a pause or stop is Internet traffic congestion. If this problem persists, try closing the player and re-launching the video.

Webinars/Horse Courses FAQ

What's a Webinar? What's a Horse Course?

Webinars and Horse Courses are both online video seminars given by an expert on a specific topic; the difference between them is that during initial presentations of Webinars, viewers can ask questions and have them answered live by the expert. A transcript of the questions and answers is included with the archived Webinar.

Archived Webinars and Horse Courses are available on demand.

Are Webinars and Horse Courses free?

They're all free, thanks to our sponsors.

I want to watch a Webinar or Horse Course, but the site says I have to sign up to do so. How does that work?

There are two quick steps to signing up for a Webinar or Horse Course.
  1. Log in as a registered member of TheHorse.com (register first if you haven't already).
  2. Sign up for Webinars/Horse Courses. In the Video Library, under the tab for Webinar and/or Horse Course, you'll see "Sign Up to Watch these Horse Courses (or Webinars)" followed by a list of courses. Simply check the boxes for all courses you'd like to sign up for, then click the "Sign up for Horse Courses (or Webinars) button below.

You'll be able to watch any archived presentations from this page immediately upon registration, and you should also receive a confirmation email immediately. For any upcoming presentations, you'll receive email reminders one day and one hour before the event.

How do I watch an archived Webinar or Horse Course?

Once you have signed up for either type of seminar, you will see "Horse Courses (or Webinars) You've Signed Up to Watch" in the Webinar / Horse Course areas of the Video Library. To watch archived presentations, just click the "Available Now" link under Date Available.

I didn't get the email about watching an upcoming Webinar/Horse Course I registered for. How do I watch it?

Make sure you're logged in to TheHorse.com (you should see "Welcome [Your Name]" under the search box near the top center of any page). Then visit the Webinar or Horse Course section of the Video Library; once the presentation begins or has occurred, you can click the "Available Now" link as above to watch the presentation.

We strongly suggest adding HorseCourse@TheHorse.com and THWebinars@TheHorse.com to your email address book to help ensure you don't miss any more reminders  about these presentations.

Some of our visitors have needed to uninstall Flash Player and reinstall it to solve their problem. To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Quit all open programs. This step is important because other programs may be using the Flash Player, and if they are, the uninstaller will fail silently.
  2. Run the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller. (http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=1)
  3. Reinstall your Flash player. (http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash)
