| When I log in, I get taken to a page with more questions. What’s that about? |
On August 24, 2006, we opened up all TheHorse.com articles to all registered users, while before most of them were only available to subscribers to The Horse magazine. When we made this change, we also decided to ask you a few questions about you and your equine activities so we could make the website better fit your needs. Lastly, we made some database changes that require you to verify your e-mail address. When you complete the questions form, you’ll get an e-mail to the address you provided on that form with an activation link. Once you click on this link, your account will be activated and you can log in to TheHorse.com with full access to all articles.
| I filled out the registration form, but I can’t log in, or I haven't received my activation email. Help! |
Our database requires that you verify your e-mail address before your account is activated. Thus, you must enter a valid e-mail address when registering or logging in for the first time after August 23, 2006, because you will receive an e-mail to that address with a link you will need to click on to activate your account. If you do not receive this e-mail, check your junk mail folder for an e-mail from AccountActivation@TheHorse.com. If you still don't receive it, please contact us at techhelp@TheHorse.com.
| Do I have to enter a subscriber number in order to view articles? |
No, you don't; all articles are free to registered users (and registering is free! Register here).
I am an AAEP member and have logged in before, but can't now. Help! |
Although previously American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) members have been able to log into TheHorse.com using their AAEP member information, this is no longer the case. We have made changes to TheHorse.com database that require each person to register his or her own account with us. If you have never logged into TheHorse.com before or only used your AAEP member information to log in, you will need to register with us to get access to all articles (don't worry, it's FREE and takes only a moment). If you have previously registered with us, just log in and update your information, then activate your account with the e-mail you will then receive.
| I forgot my password. How can I get it? |
If you forgot your password, you can have it emailed to you. If you no longer have access to the email address with which you registered and thus won't get an email to that address, you can email us at TechHelp@TheHorse.com and ask us to update your email address for you, or simply register again with your new email address.
| I have registered, but I can't log in. Help! |
When logging in, make sure that you use the same email address and password with which you registered. If you forgot your password, you can have it emailed to you.
Also, make sure you have activated your account via e-mail. We have made some changes to our user database that require all new and previously registered users to confirm their e-mail addresses via e-mail. Once new users register and previously registered users log in for the first time since the changes, they will receive an e-mail requiring that they click on a link to activate their accounts and begin reading articles. If you do not receive this e-mail within the next 24 hours of registering or logging in for the first time after August 24, 2006, check your junk mail folder for an e-mail from AccountActivation@TheHorse.com. If you don’t have this e-mail, your e-mail address might have been misspelled when you registered or updated your account. Please register again and carefully check the spelling of your e-mail address. If you still don't receive this e-mail, contact techhelp@TheHorse.com for assistance.
Another suggestion that has helped some of our website users is to clear out (or delete) the browser cookies on your computer, and then log in again. Sometimes browser cookies can get corrupted and cause problems with the login process. On a PC using Internet Explorer, you would go to Tools at the top of the page and select Internet Options, then click the Delete Cookies button. This will clear out all cookies on your computer and you will need to log in again to any sites for which you had stored cookies. On a Macintosh computer (OS 10) using the Safari browser, go to the Safari menu option at the top of the page and select Preferences. Click the Show Cookies button near the bottom of that window, navigate to the www.thehorse.com cookies, and delete them by selecting them and clicking the Remove button at the bottom of the page. Then click Done, close the Security window, and log in. If the problem was a corrupted cookie, it should be gone.
Lastly, try quitting out of your browser and reopening it. This is often helpful especially with Internet Explorer 7.
If you still cannot log in, please contact our Customer Service center at 800-582-5604 (from 8 am to 5 pm Monday-Friday, Eastern time), 01-859-278-2361 outside the U.S., or via email at subscribe@thehorse.com.

| Your login or registration page says I must have cookies enabled to log in. What does that mean and how do I do that? |
A cookie is a small text file on your computer that lets TheHorse.com recognize you and permit you access to restricted content. If your browser has cookies disabled, you cannot log in to TheHorse.com to access content that is restricted to only registered users.
To allow cookies, go to Tools-->Internet Options if you are using Internet Explorer, or Edit-->Preferences on a Macintosh (OS 9), and see if your privacy is set to High (block all cookies). If you are comfortable with doing so, set your security to Medium or anything below and your problem logging in to or registering with TheHorse.com should disappear. If you are using a Macintosh and Safari (OS X), see the Safari menu option-->Preferences-->Security to check your cookie settings. If your browser is set to "Never" receive cookies, changing it to "Always" or "Only from sites I navigate to" should fix your problem.

| I've registered and logged in, but keep getting a message saying the article is only available to registered users when I try to view an article. |
If you have logged in, you should see "[Your name]'s Stuff" in the upper right corner of any page. If you do not see this text (if you see "Sign In or Register Now...." here), then our website does not see you as logged in. To log in, use the email address and password with which you registered.
If you log in successfully but are subsequently logged out when you try to see an article, check your browser privacy or security settings and make sure that cookies have not been disabled. If your browser security settings are too high, then your browser will not store a cookie (which is how our website "remembers" you are logged in). On a Macintosh, you might see an error message like, "Your Security Zone settings do not allow you to send HTML forms." On a PC, you might just notice that the Welcome message does not appear on the top of our website pages and "SIGN IN" appears in this area instead.
To check this, go to Tools-->Options on a PC, or Edit-->Preferences on a Macintosh (using OS 9), and see if your security/privacy is set to High. If you are comfortable with doing so, set your security to Medium or anything below and your multiple login problem with TheHorse.com should disappear. If you are using a Macintosh running OS X and Safari, see the Safari menu option-->Preferences-->Security to check your cookie settings. If your browser is set to "Never" receive cookies, changing it to "Always" or "Only from sites I navigate to" should fix your problem.

| I get the e-newsletter. Am I automatically registered for TheHorse.com |
Most likely, but not necessarily. If you have been getting the e-newsletter since 2001 (before we began accepting TheHorse.com registrations), you might not be registered for the site even if you get the newsletter. You must register with TheHorse.com in order to read most in-depth articles on our site if you haven't already done so (don't worry, it's FREE).
| How do I change my email address and/or password for logging into TheHorse.com? What if I need to change my name? |

- Change your name

- Manage your newsletter subscriptions
- Manage your favorite articles
- Manage your magazine subscription (i.e., change your mailing address for magazine delivery)
- And more!
