Lillie Langtry Suffers Knee Fracture

November 08 2009, Article # 15237

Thoroughbred Lillie Langtry, the beaten favorite in the Nov. 6 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, suffered a slab fracture in a knee during the race.

John Magnier of Coolmore, co-owner of the filly, was quoted in The Racing Post as saying, "She has a small fracture in her knee. It was nobody's fault and everybody here at Santa Anita dealt with it efficiently. It's not a career-threatening injury. She will have a pin inserted in the knee on Sunday and then she will follow on home in 10 days time."

Lillie Langtry, by Danehill Dancer out of the Darshaan mare Hoity Toity, broke slowly and was never in contention. She finished eighth.

The filly had previously won three of her six starts including the Debutante Stakes (Ire-II) and Coolmore Stud Fillies Sprint Stakes (Ire-III).

The other owners are Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith. She is trained by Aidan O'Brien.
