Barbaro's Brother Lentenor Entered in First Race

October 29 2009, Article # 15180

Lael Stable’s Lentenor, the full brother to 2006 Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, is scheduled to make his career debut on Keeneland’s Oct. 31 closing-day card.

The son of Dynformer produced from the Carson City mare La Ville Rouge is one of a dozen 2-year-olds entered in the fifth race, a $50,000 maiden special event going seven furlongs over the Polytrack.

Trained by Michael Matz, who conditioned Barbaro, Lentenor drew the No. 2 post under jockey Julien Leparoux.

Roy Jackson, who with his wife, Gretchen, operate Lael Stable, said they would unlikely would be at Keeneland for Lentenor’s debut. The Jacksons drew widespread public support for their efforts to save Barbaro's life after a career-ending injury in the Preakness Stakes and the laminitis he developed following surgery on a shattered limb. The colt was euthanized in early 2007 due to laminitis complications.

Nicanor, the full brother to Barbaro and Lentenor, continues to recover from a bone bruise that forced him to be scratched out of the Virginia Derby. The colt, who has won both starts on grass, will likely return to competition at Gulfstream Park.
