A racecourse that hosted Pakistan’s largest races has closed, and more than 200 Thoroughbreds there are slowly starving, according to the Associated Press and the International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH).

The racetrack was shut down after a dispute with the government about licensing fees, and possibly 60 horses have died already.

Most of the 600 horses housed at the 250-acre facility in Karachi, Pakistan, were taken to other tracks around the country. However, 250 horses were abandoned by owners and remain loose without food or care. Water and electricity have been cut off to the facility.

The ILPH told The Horse that racing was about to start again, and that some horses had been turned out to fend for themselves
