Meet the Team:

Christy West, Digital Editor/Producer of TheHorse.com, holds a B.S. in Animal Science (equine option) from the University of Kentucky and an M.S. in agricultural journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She grew up riding saddle horses and anything else she could jump on in St. Simons Island, Ga. Currently she is based in North Carolina and enjoys competitive skydiving in her free time.
Alexandra Beckstett, Features/Departments Editor of The Horse and a native of Houston, Texas, is a lifelong horse owner who has shown successfully on the national hunter/jumper circuit and dabbled in hunter breeding. After graduating from Duke University in 2008 with a BA in English, she joined Blood-Horse Publications as Assistant Editor of its book division, Eclipse Press. Over the past year Alexandra has also written and maintained the Thrifty Horsekeeping blog on TheHorse.com, which offers downloadable cost-saving advice for horse owners.
Megan Arszman, Photo/Newsletter Editor, received a B.S. In Print Journalism, with a minor in Equine Science, from Murray State Univeristy in Murray, Ky. Growing up with horses, she competed in many events such as Hunter Under Saddle, Barrel Racing, Reining, Breakaway Roping, and Halter with her Quarter Horses. When not in the saddle, she enjoys working out, dog agility with her Corgi and Swedish Vallhund, and being outside as much as possible.
Leslie Neilson, Online Advertising Sales Manager, earned a B.S. in Psychology from Appalachian State University, in Boone, N.C. Leslie has over 14 years experience in online advertising, marketing and business development. Prior to joining BHP in 2006, Leslie held the Internet Marketing Director position at a Top 200 Internet retailer. A mother of two teenage boys, she enjoys spending all her free time supporting their curiosities and aspirations.
Leigh Walkup, East Coast Account Executive for The Horse and TheHorse.com, attended Murray State University and majored in Agricultural Business. She grew up riding her father’s team roping horses and is now a competitive barrel racer who enjoys photography and spending time on her farm.
Yvonne Long, West Coast Account Executive of The Horse and TheHorse.com, holds a B.S. in Animal Science and a A.S. Veterinary Technology. She grew up on a farm and worked 14 years at the University of KY Equine Parentage Testing and Research Lab. She enjoys her animals, traveling, cooking, hiking, and biking.
Tabitha Knox, Advertising Coordinator and Classifieds Sales Associate for The Horse, attended Midway College and majored in Equine Business. She obtained her Veterinary Assistant diploma from Penn Foster Career School in 2006. She grew up dreaming of riding horses but never owning her own. She has been with Blood-Horse Publications for five years, the last two with The Horse. In her free time, she enjoys playing/coaching soccer, playing with her “kids” Charlie and Copper (see photo), and hiking.
Dawn Garner, Senior Programmer, earned a B.S. with a double major in Computer Science and Accounting from Northern Illinois University. She grew up riding and taking lessons whenever she could and after college finally achieved her dream of owning her own horse. In addition to her love of horses, she enjoys playing with her dogs and parrots, gardening, photography, hiking and volunteering for various animal rescue organizations.
Charles Payne, Associate Publisher, started riding in college, taking Horsemanship as a gym class. In short order, he was foxhunting and helped start the Intercollegiate team at Taylor University. He bought his first horse when he was 35; did the typical “boomer horse trail,” dreamed about owning a horse most of his life; bought and boarded for a few years; then bought land and built a barn and brought his horses home. By then he had two, a Shire-TB cross and a retired TB. In short order, he acquired a rescue Paint horse for his youngest son and then started boarding a Percheron for a friend. He's between horses now, but now that he lives in Lexington, he's looking forward to riding on a regular basis. Despite owning his own, the best two hours he ever spent on a horse was the time spent in Ireland on an 18.1-hand purebred Irish Draft – who was blind in the left eye.
