The Horse is an award-winning monthly magazine devoted to equine health, care, management, and welfare; TheHorse.com is the award-winning website of The Horse magazine that contains all content from the magazine as well as additional news and features on horses and the equine industry. Our mission is to provide education to hands-on participants in the horse industry through print and electronic means.

We pledge that we will serve you and your horses by providing the most accurate and timely information about equine health, care, management, and welfare. Our articles are written for hands-on horse owners, trainers, riders, breeders, veterinarians, vet techs, and managers who want to know more about taking the best care of their horses--regardless of the breed or discipline in which they participate.

Meet the Team:

Stephanie Church, Editor-in-Chief of The HorseStephanie L. Church, Editor-in-Chief of The Horse, received a B.A. in Journalism and Equestrian Studies from Averett College in Danville, Va., and has worked in five positions at the magazine since 1999. Her equine background is in eventing, and she enjoys photography, cooking, cycling, swimming, and traveling in her free time.

Alexandra Beckstett, Features/Departments Editor Alexandra Beckstett, Features/Departments Editor of The Horse, holds a B.A. in English from Duke University and served as Assistant Editor of Blood-Horse Publications’ book division, Eclipse Press, before joining The Horse staff. A native of Houston, Texas, Alex is a lifelong horse owner who's shown successfully on the national hunter/jumper circuit and dabbled in Warmblood breeding.

Megan Arszman, Photo/Newsletter EditorMegan Arszman, Photo/Newsletter Editor, received a B.S. in Print Journalism, with a minor in Equine Science, from Murray State University in Murray, Ky. Growing up with horses, she competed in many events such as hunter under saddle, barrel racing, reining, breakaway roping, and halter with her Quarter Horses on the AQHA, PHBA, and open show circuits. When not in the saddle, she enjoys working out, dog agility with her Corgi and Swedish Vallhund, and being outside as much as possible. She, along with Erica, writes the Weird Horse News blog on TheHorse.com

Erica Larson, News EditorErica Larson, News Editor, holds a degree in Journalism with an external specialty in Equine Science from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich. A Massachusetts native, she grew up in the saddle and has dabbled in a variety of disciplines including foxhunting, saddleseat, and mounted games. Currently, Erica competes in three-day eventing with her off-the-track Thoroughbred, Dorado. Prior to her job at The Horse, Erica was a groom and stable manager for a four-star eventer. She enjoys photography in her spare time. Erica co-writes the Weird Horse News blog with Megan.

Michelle Anderson, Digital Editor Michelle Anderson, Digital Editor/Producer of TheHorse.com, has worked in publishing and marketing since 1999. She started her career at Appaloosa Journal and has since worked and written for several top equestrian publications and websites. Most recently, she worked in corporate marketing with a focus on strategic and digital planning. A lifelong horse owner, Michelle currently competes in dressage and enjoys trail riding. She’s also a certified therapeutic riding instructor and previously managed the care and training of a 12-horse therapy herd. Michelle holds a B.A. in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Print Journalism from Washington State University.

Leslie Neilson, Online Advertising Sales Manager, earned a B.S. in Psychology from Appalachian State University, in Boone, N.C. Leslie has over 14 years experience in online advertising, marketing and business development. Prior to joining BHP in 2006, Leslie held the Internet Marketing Director position at a Top 200 Internet retailer. A mother of two teenage boys, she enjoys spending all her free time supporting their curiosities and aspirations.

 

Leigh Walkup, East Coast Account Executive for The Horse and TheHorse.comLeigh Walkup, East Coast Account Executive for The Horse and TheHorse.com, attended Murray State University and majored in Agricultural Business. She grew up riding her father’s team roping horses and is now a competitive barrel racer who enjoys photography and spending time on her farm.

Yvonne Long, West Coast Account Executive of The Horse and TheHorse.comYvonne Long, West Coast Account Executive of The Horse and TheHorse.com, holds a B.S. in Animal Science and a A.S. Veterinary Technology. She grew up on a farm and worked 14 years at the University of Kentucky Equine Parentage Testing and Research Lab. She enjoys her animals, traveling, cooking, hiking, and biking.
