AAEP On Call Vet to Support Oaks, Derby Telecasts

An equine veterinarian representing the American Association of Equine Practitioners’ (AAEP) On Call program will assist NBC Sports with horse-health information during the May 2 and May 3 live racing telecasts at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.

Equine surgeon Larry Bramlage, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVS, will be on hand to provide timely health reports to the media regarding the athletes in Friday's Kentucky Oaks and Saturday's Kentucky Derby races.

Bramlage is an internationally recognized equine orthopedic surgeon and a partner at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky. He is a 1975 graduate of the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, and he received a Master of Science degree from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine; his master’s thesis was on the study of bone grafts and bone plating. Prior to joining Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, he was an associate professor of equine surgery at The Ohio State University.

Bramlage has served as an AAEP On Call veterinarian since 1993 and covers such major events as the Triple Crown races and the Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships. He focuses his veterinary career on racehorse care
