New Veterinary Representatives Join AAEP On Call Team

Six veterinarians with specific interests in the Thoroughbred racehorse are the newest spokespersons for the American Association of Equine Practitioners’ (AAEP) On Call program. The On Call program is an innovative media-assistance program that provides timely health-care information about equine athletes during nationally televised events.

Joining the program in 2014 are:

  • Luis Castro, DVM, of Wellington, Fla. A partner in Teigland, Franklin, and Brokken, Castro divides his practice between Palm Meadows Training Center in Boynton Beach, Fla., and Saratoga Racecourse in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
  • Kevin Dunlavy, DVM, of Louisville, Ky. Dunlavy is the managing partner and co-owner of Kentucky Equine Medical Associates, a five-veterinarian practice providing care for racehorses in Kentucky, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Indiana.
  • Lisa Fortier, DVM, PhD, Dipl. ACVS, of Ithaca, N.Y. Fortier is a professor of surgery and an equine surgeon at Cornell University, where her research program investigates the clinical application of stem cells and biologics for cartilage repair and tendonitis.
  • Keith Latson, DVM, Dipl. ACVS, of Pasadena, Calif. Latson is in private surgical and performance equine practice, focusing on racehorses at Southern California racetracks.
  • Michael Major, DVM, Dipl. ACVS, of Edmond, Okla. A partner at Oakridge Equine Hospital, a referral facility, Major predominately treats racehorses. He has special interests in lameness, sports medicine, and orthopedics.
  • John Peloso, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVS, of Ocala, Fla. Peloso is a founding partner at the Equine Medical Center of Ocala and began his career at a Standbardbred racetrack practice in Ontario, Canada.

The On Call program serves over 30 televised equine events annually and was honored with the 2008 Special Eclipse Award for service to Thoroughbred racing. More than 20 media-trained AAEP-member veterinarians share their veterinary expertise as On Call spokespersons.
