Duncan F. Peters, DVM, MS, has been named director of the Clinical Equine Sports Medicine Program and associate professor of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at Michigan State University’s (MSU) College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM).

Peters comes to MSU from Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, Ky. He joined the institute in 2006 as director of their Sport Horse Division and, during his tenure there, developed one of the nation’s strongest private sports horse medical programs. The Hagyard Institute is one of the world’s oldest and largest equine veterinary practices and is known internationally for its leadership in veterinary medicine. Previously, he helped develop the English sport horse program at Pioneer Equine Hospital, a referral practice in Oakdale, Calif. He also co-directed their assisted reproduction services.

A leading authority on locomotor pathology, diagnosis, and treatment, Peters also works on managing sport horse health for optimum performance. He is a multi-discipline licensed Fédération Equestrian Internationale (FEI) veterinarian and is FEI certified in dressage, eventing, jumping, driving, vaulting, and reining.
