A Louisiana man is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing three horses from a pasture in Iberia Parrish.

Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Commissioner Michael Strain, DVM, said LDAF Livestock Brand Commission investigators responded to a complaint in July from an Iberia Parrish owner regarding three horses that were missing from his property.

An investigation revealed that the horses were allegedly taken to a Louisiana stockyard that month where they were checked in for sale by Deamonte Davon Lee Chatman, Strain said. All three horses sold, and Chatman allegedly received payment, he added.

Acting on a warrant, deputies from the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation’s Gaming Enforcement Division arrested Chatman on Nov. 22 at Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino, near Lafayette. He was charged with three counts of livestock theft and booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail
