Freedom Health has once again named the month of June “Equine Colic Awareness Month,” with a month-long awareness effort in conjunction with the Crusade Against Equine Colic. Equine Colic Awareness Month is designed to raise awareness and build community around the issues of colic and colic prevention.

Throughout the month of June, the Crusade Against Equine Colic will provide colic prevention–related content through various outlets, including on www.coliccrusade.com. Further activities will aim to garner the engagement of horse owners and trainers, encouraging them to share their own personal colic stories and ideas, and active participants and partners activities will have opportunities to win prizes.

“Equine Colic Awareness Month will be bigger this year,” said Patrick Warczak, Jr., vice president of marketing for Freedom Health. “As one aspect of the Crusade Against Equine Colic, we are seeking to draw attention to equine colic. Through our educational effort, and by encouraging sharing of ideas and stories, we will help owners implement practices that may reduce their horses’ risk for colic. We will measure our success by the number of people involved and, ultimately, by the number of horses saved.”

As a result of a recent promotion, SoCo, a six year old Appendix Quarter Horse owned by Taylor Allen of Mulberry, Fla., was named the Official “Spokeshorse” of Equine Colic Awareness Month, 2013. SoCo, who will be featured in communications for the campaign this year, was selected from a number of horses whose colic survival stories were submitted to the Crusade Against Equine Colic
