The University of Prince Edward Island’s Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) will be offering a Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue (TLAER) course for veterinarians, emergency responders, horse owners, and rescue organizations, July 5-7. The course is being organized by AVC ambulatory veterinarian Erica Koch, DVM.

Course instructors Tomas Gimenez, DMV, and Rebecca Gimenez, PhD, have taught TLAER across the United States, and in the U.K., Australia, and Colombia, but this is the first time that they will teach in Canada.

"TLAER is not disaster medicine, and it is not only field medicine," says Tomas Gimenez. "Participants learn practical techniques for safely rescuing live large animals from entrapment situations like trailer wrecks, ditches, mud pits, and barn fires."

The course is designed for emergency responders such as firefighters, police and rescue teams, as well as animal rescue organizations, and large animal owners and transporters
