An allegedly emaciated horse is receiving rehabilitative care while authorities seek whoever is responsible for abandoning the animal on an Oregon road.

Kim Mosiman, of Sound Equine Options in Gresham, Oregon, said residents heard a horse's hooves on the pavement of Damascus Road in Clackamas County on July 3. They later discovered an allegedly emaciated horse had been turned loose.

“The people who found the horse had a barn, so they took the animal in and filed a report with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office,” Mosiman said.

Mosiman said the horse had a body condition score of 2 on the 9-point Henneke scale. In addition, the animal showed signs of a fungal infection and was in need of farrier care, she said
