UGA to Host Horse Health Seminar for Owners

On Aug. 10, the University of Georgia (UGA) will play host to a horse health seminar. The seminar is presented by the UGA Student Chapter of the America Association of Equine Practitioners and the UGA College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Department of Animal Science.

Tentative lecture topics will include:

  • Equine ophthalmology basics;
  • Feeding horses for success;
  • Colic;
  • Forages and pasture management;
  • Equine herpesvirus;
  • Manure management;
  • Dermatology; and
  • Acupuncture.

Wet lab sessions will include:

  • Bandaging;
  • Equine First Aid;
  • Riding competitively in college; and
  • So you want to be a farrier?

The seminar is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The cost is $50 for attendees 18 and older, $25 for attendees aged 8 to 18, $10 for attendees aged 2 to 8, and children under the age of 2 are admitted free. Children under the age of 8 will not be allowed in the afternoon wet labs and childcare will not be provided. The registration fee includes all lectures, wet labs, lunch, and a tee-shirt.
