The Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine’s Equine Surgery Service in is seeking horses with sarcoid or squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) for a clinical study.

Horses with tumors of 5 centimeters diameter or less can be enrolled and treated with Immunocidin Equine.

The Iowa State study is focused on standardizing treatment protocols and assessing the product’s efficacy and safety in the treatment of both sarcoids and SCC.

Initial work-up will include collecting a history, conducting a physical examination, collecting a small (4-6 millimeter) tumor biopsy, and taking tumor measurement and photographs. Biopsies will be evaluated to establish a histopathologic diagnosis. Local tumor injection will be completed on an outpatient basis. Horses will receive examination and treatments every 14 days. If no visible tumor is present at recheck, then an additional 14-day recheck will be recommended. If the tumor is still visible, an additional treatment will be performed at that time. If no response is seen after four injections, Immunocidin treatment will be discontinued. Tumors will be photographed and measured at each visit prior to re-injection
