A New York City woman is suing the New York Police Department (NYPD) after a police horse allegedly bit her finger.

Attorney Michael Asta said that in November 2014, his client Pernilla Ekberg and a friend saw an NYPD Mounted Unit Police Officer and his horse on the street in New York City. The pair asked the officer for permission to pet the animal, Asta said, and, with the officer’s approval, Ekberg’s friend petted the horse.

“When Ekberg went to pet the horse on the nose, the horse bit her finger,” Asta said. “There was no provocation and she wasn’t feeding it anything.”

On Aug. 20, Ekberg filed suit against the NYPD, Asta said
