The University of Florida (UF) College of Veterinary Medicine will host its sixth annual Healthy Horses Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 27. The event is aimed at horse owners, professionals in the equine business, and anyone with an interest in equine health. The program includes lectures, lunch and live equine demonstrations.

“The University of Florida is dedicated to improving owner education,” said Amanda House, DVM, Dipl. ACVIM, conference coordinator. “This conference is a wonderful opportunity to see our hospital facility and meet veterinarians from all of our services.”

House, a clinical assistant professor of large animal clinical sciences at UF, will lead an interactive discussion about horse health myths. Other presenters, predominantly board-certified UF faculty members, will cover topics such as fly control, hay selection, equine pythiosis, lameness, horses with anhydrosis (known as non-sweaters), and subfertile mares. Attendees will receive brief summaries of all lectures.

An equine conformation and painted horse demonstration illustrating equine anatomy will be presented, along with live high-speed treadmill demonstrations and tours of the UF Large Animal Hospital
