Program for 2013 WEVA Congress Announced

The World Equine Veterinary Association (WEVA) has announced the final program for the biennial congress in Budapest, Hungary, taking place Oct. 3-5, 2013. The program includes a diverse lineup of international speakers from Europe, North America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia. On Oct. 3 WEVA President Ravi Reddy, BVSc, MRCVS, and Dr. Zita Makra, of the Hungarian Association of Equine Practitioners, will open the Congress. Also on Oct. 3, the recipient of the Merial Applied Research Award will be announced and a state-of-the-art lecture on the winner’s research will be presented. Following, the Infectious Disease News Hour will be presented, a session modeled on the ever-popular Kester News Hour at American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) conferences.

Louise Southwood, BVSc, PhD, Dipl. ACVS, ACVECC, associate professor in the Department of Clinical Studies at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center, will present the State-of-the-Art Lecture on "Colic—Lessons from the Past and Expectations for the Future, What’s new?" Southwood originally hales from Australia, but did her residency in equine surgery at Colorado State University (CSU), when the program chair, Kate Savage, was a young faculty member there. Southwood and her husband, Eric Parente, DVM, Dipl. ACVS, also of the New Bolton Center, will be giving a number of lectures on colic and diagnosis and management of upper respiratory tract disorders, respectively
