Authorities Seek Virginia Horse Slasher

Three horses sustained cuts requiring veterinary treatment. None of the wounds appeared life-threatening.

Law enforcement authorities in Virginia are seeking whoever is responsible for wounding three horses located in a pasture near a park in Fairfax County.

In a statement, Fairfax County Police said the horses were located on a property adjacent to Frying Pan Farm Park when, sometime between 9 p.m. on April 25 and 9 a.m. on April 26, someone attacked the animals with a sharp instrument. All three horses sustained cuts requiring veterinary treatment; however, none of the wounds appeared life-threatening, the police statement said.

Matthew Kaiser, deputy public information officer for the Fairfax County Parks Authority, said all three horses belong to the Spirit Open Equestrian Program, which uses park facilities to provide riding lessons for children and equine-assisted therapy for wounded military veterans.
