Georgia Horse Shootings Probed

One horse was killed and another was injured as a result of being shot in their pasture earlier this month.

Law enforcement authorities in Georgia are seeking whoever is responsible for shooting two horses residing in a Hall County pasture earlier this month.

Hall County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks said the horses’ owner found the animals wounded in their Gainesville pasture on Nov. 23. One horse had sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder; the other sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. The leg wound might have occurred when a single gunshot penetrated the first horse’s shoulder area, then struck the second horse in the leg, Wilbanks said.

A veterinarian called to the scene to examine the animals euthanized the leg-wounded horse, Wilbanks said. The other animal is receiving treatment and is expected to recover.

The incident remains under investigation, Wilbanks said. If caught, those responsible could face yet-to-be-determined charges, he said
