Officials with The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), a sponsor of the 32nd Annual Hampton Classic Horse Show, will present the ASPCA Maclay National Championship trophy on Friday, August 31. R. Scot Evans, equine expert and a consultant to the ASPCA, and Joseph Pentangelo, assistant director of the ASPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement department, will present the trophy at 9:30 a.m. in the Hunter III Show Ring.

In addition, many of the ASPCA’s experts on animal behavior, humane education, and humane law enforcement, including Supervisory Special Investigator Annemarie Lucas, star of the hit series “Animal Precinct” on Animal Planet, will be on hand to meet and greet visitors at the ASPCA table in the exhibition tent throughout the show, which takes place in Bridgehampton, N. Y. from Sunday, August 26 to Sunday, September 2. (Specific times are listed below.)

“The ASPCA is proud to be part of The Hampton Classic, one of the finest horse competitions in the country,” said ASPCA president and CEO Ed Sayres. “The ASPCA’s association with horses dates back to the mid 19th century, when our founder Henry Bergh witnessed an act of cruelty toward a horse. That incident formed the basis for creating what was and is the first animal welfare agency in the Americas.”

The ASPCA Maclay National Championship, held since 1933, is the biggest junior hunter equitation competition of the year.

The Hampton Classic is one of the country’s largest hunter/jumper horse shows and regularly draws many of the world’s top horses and riders, including Olympic, World Cup, and World Championship veterans.
