Commission: Indiana Grand Cobalt Results ‘Pristine’

The Indiana Horse Racing Commission reports no violations of its cobalt regulation midway through the 120-day Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse race meet at Indiana Grand, in Shelbyville.

After 60 days of racing (through July 31), all of the 221 samples tested were beneath the of 25 ppb (parts per billion) threshold. The average concentration was 3.65 ppb and the mean 3.08 ppb. More than 97% of the reported results were less than 10 ppb.

“Indy Grand’s cobalt levels are absolutely pristine,” said Joe Gorajec, the commission’s executive director. “Our regulation has served its purpose as an effective deterrent. My hope is that this trend continues for the remainder of the race meet.”
