When you think of feeding a horse, what comes to mind first? Hay, grain, or grass? Maybe even an apple or carrot for a treat?

Even though horses mainly consume forage-based diets, some of them seem to enjoy  “human” foods as well, such as candy, cookies, and even sandwiches. Recently we asked horse owners to share some of the strangest things their horses have eaten. Here are a few of those food (and non-food) items they caught their horse munching on.

Editor’s note: Just because a horse will eat something doesn’t mean he should. Contact your veterinarian or an equine nutritionist if you have any questions about the safety of your horse’s diet or favorite snacks
