Lily, the 20-year-old Appaloosa/Arabian-cross mare who was pelted with an estimated 130 shots from a paintball gun, has been released from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine’s (Penn Vet) New Bolton Center and transferred to an undisclosed location where she will continue her recovery.

On March 14, the mare was discovered in a stall at the New Holland auction barn. Rescuers from the Omega Horse Rescue, in Airville, Pennsylvania, brought Lily to the New Bolton Center, in Kennett Square, for assessment and treatment. Veterinarians determined the mare was underweight, blind in one eye, and suffering from an ulcer in the other eye.

At the end of March, the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office charged Phillip S. Price of East Providence, Rhode Island, with three counts of animal cruelty, one count of dealing and handling animals without a license, and one count of importing animals without an interstate health certificate in connection with the case. The investigation into the case remains ongoing.

On April 7, Louisa Shepherd, spokeswoman for the New Bolton Center, said Lily was released from the hospital to an undisclosed location
