Ohio law enforcement authorities are hoping the public can help identify whoever is responsible for shooting a horse while it grazed in its Butler County pasture.

Butler County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Sergeant Monte Mayer said an owner reported that a horse was found lying motionless and bleeding from its forehead in its Morgan Township pasture on June 16. Upon investigation, deputies determined that the animal had sustained a gunshot wound to the head, Mayer said.

“It has not been determined if the shooting was an intentional act,” Mayer said.

While the investigation continues, the Butler County Sheriff's Department is asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward, Mayer said. Anyone with information about the case should call the sheriff's investigative unit at 513/785-1234
