A barn fire that occurred late last month claimed the lives of eight stock horses housed in rural Cass County, Mo.

Dolan-West Dolan Fire Chief Scott A. Mathes said that on Oct. 25, the Cass County Sheriff’s dispatch center received a call from a passerby indicating that a barn was on fire. Upon arrival, fire personnel discovered an approximately 120-foot by 120-foot metal barn building fully involved in fire, Mathes said.

The seven American Paint Horses and one Quarter Horse in the barn at the time of the fire were owned by clients of Knaus Show Horses, said Mathes.

“There was one horse … housed separately and it survived,” Mathes said
