Rood & Riddle Expanding Veterinary Services in New York

Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital announced today (Sept. 17) that, following a Sept. 16 real estate closing, the company had expanded its veterinary services to New York. Located in Saratoga Springs, the clinic—which will be known as Saratoga Equine: A Rood & Riddle Hospital—is Rood & Riddle’s first clinical venture outside Kentucky.

"We believe that this is the time to expand," Bill Rood, DVM, Rood & Riddle CEO, said in a release. "With the number of farms opening operations in New York, the strong numbers at the Saratoga sales, and the number of our clients training in Saratoga, the shareholders of Rood & Riddle feel that this is the time and the location to expand the veterinary services for which we are proud to be known in Kentucky.”

The clinic—previously known as Saratoga Equine Veterinary Services and owned by Bill Barnes, DVM—is located less than a mile from Saratoga Race Course and the Saratoga Springs Horse Show.

Last year Scott Ahlschwede, DVM, a Rood & Riddle ambulatory veterinarian, began providing ambulatory veterinary services to the operation’s New York clients.

Also on Sept. 17, Rood & Riddle announced that surgeon Travis Tull, DVM, Dipl. ACVS, had been hired and will begin practicing at Saratoga Equine. Tull began his veterinary career at Rood & Riddle as an intern in 2006 and completed a three-year residency in Equine Surgery at Rood & Riddle in 2010.

"We are excited about what Travis will bring to the practice in Saratoga,” Brett Woodie, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVS, a surgeon at Rood & Riddle and managing partner of Saratoga Equine, said in a release. "He has been a part of the Rood & Riddle family for many years, and we are certain that he brings the highest level of surgical expertise to this venture."
