The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine’s New Bolton Center experts in veterinary emergency and critical care, neonatal intensive care, and reproduction will speak about equine dystocia, care of a sick foal, and postpartum mare management, during a special evening program focused on foaling.

Barbara Dallap Schaer, VMD, Dipl. ACVS, ACVECC, medical director of the New Bolton Center and an emergency and critical care specialist, will discuss equine dystocia (abnormal foaling), including indications for referral, methods to maximize foal survival, and protocols for dystocia management at the New Bolton Center.

Michelle Linton, BSc BVMS, Dipl. ACVIM-LAIM, a fellow in emergency/critical care and internal medicine, will discuss optimizing foal care on the farm, indications for referral, and unique services provided by the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Patricia Sertich, VMD, MS, Dipl. ACT, associate professor of reproduction, will outline postpartum mare management with a focus on the fetal membrane evaluations. Additionally, she will address the care a mare receives when she is referred to New Bolton Center accompanying a sick foal
