The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) has reported a new case of equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) in Los Angeles County, while an EHV-1-positive horse in Inyo County has developed neurologic signs.

In Los Angeles County, the CDFA reported that three new febrile horses were identified. Thus far, one has tested positive, one has tested negative, and test results are forthcoming on the third.

“The LAEC (Los Angeles Equestrian Center) incident has had a total of 14 EHV-1 confirmed cases, all of those caused by the non-neurotrophic strain EHV-1 virus,” the CDFA said.

Three barns at the LAEC that have not housed any EHV-1-positive horses were released from quarantine on Dec. 11. Several barns remain quarantined
