Reno Wild Horse, Burro Center to Temporarily Close June 20

The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) National Wild Horse and Burro Center at Palomino Valley (PVC), located near Reno, Nevada, will be closed to the public on Saturday, June 20.

The closure comes so staff and volunteers can to assist with the wild horse adoption opportunity coinciding with the Extreme Mustang Makeover competition at the Reno Livestock Event Center June 20-21. Normal feeding, animal wellness, and oversight operations will continue at the facility as usual.

The PVC will reopen to the public during its regularly scheduled hours on Monday, June 22. The facility is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pacific Time, and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The PVC is closed on federal holidays.

The National Wild Horse and Burro Center at Palomino Valley is the largest BLM preparation and public adoption facility in the country and can provide care for up to 1,850 wild horses and burros. It serves as the primary preparation facility for wild horses and burros gathered from public lands in Nevada and nearby states
