Three Thoroughbred yearlings reportedly scheduled to be sold at the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale died in a Central Kentucky barn fire just before midnight Jan. 10.

Lexington, Kentucky, television station WKYT said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire at the unnamed farm off Paris Pike in Bourbon County.

Crews from Bourbon and Fayette County responded to the fire.

Bourbon County Fire Department chief Lloyd Campbell told the station a state trooper spotted the fire and was able to alert residents nearby
