Grayson-Jockey Club to Fund 12 New Projects in 2013

The board of directors of Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation has approved funding of 12 new projects plus an unprecedented three Storm Cat Development Awards.

The 12 new regular projects are in addition to five projects that are now in their second year. The 17 research projects are being unwritten by the foundation in 2013 for a total of $874,024. This latest research projects brings the foundation total since 1983 to $19,953,183. The money has funded 299 studies at 40 universities.

Projects being launched in 2013 include:

  • Evaluation of a Rapid Test for Salmonella—Paul Morley, DVM, PhD, Dipl. ACVIM
  • Gallium: An Alternative to Macrolides against R. equi?—Noah Cohen, VMD, MPH,. PhD, Dipl. ACVIM
  • Development of Alternative Models to Study EHM—Gisela Soboll Hussey, DVM, MS, PhD
  • Factors Affecting Omeprazole Pharmacokinetics in Horses—Paul Mills, BVSc (Hons), PhD, MACVSc, GCEd, MPhil
  • Motor Responses in Equine Cervical Stenoic Myelopathy—Cody Alcott, DVM
  • Detection of Lameness in Racehorses at the Gallop—Kevin Keegan, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVS
  • Acoustoelastography to Monitor Injured Equine Tendon—Sabrina Brounts, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVS
  • Evaluation of Biofilm from Equine Uterine Bacteria—Ryan Ferris, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACT
  • Molecular Determinants of EHV-1 Fusion and Spread—Arthur Frampton, PhD
  • Effect of CYP2D Genetic Polymorphisms on Drug Metabolism—Heather Knych, DVM, PhD
  • Serum Biomarkers for Equine Laminitis—Hannah Galantino-Homer, VMD, PhD
  • The Interaction Between Anthelminitc Treatment and Vaccination—Martin Nielsen, DVM, PhD, Dipl. EVPC
