The University of Maryland Extension is offering a seminar titled “Advanced Pasture Management: Beyond the Basics” on Sept. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the university’s Central Maryland Research and Education Center located at 4240 Folly Quarter Road in Ellicott City.

Forage, horse, and conservation specialists will teach participants how to maximize the use and productivity of their horse pastures while improving horse and environmental health. Participants will delve deep into the complexity of soil types and how it affects grass growth, learn about the right lime and fertilizer to purchase for horse pastures, discover new findings regarding carbohydrates and pasture, and learn how to get a handle on those out of control weeds. The event will also feature live rainfall demonstrations on pasture plots and an opportunity to explore different pasture species suitable for horse pastures in raised garden beds. A full schedule of events is included below.

The registration fee is $35, which includes lunch and course handouts. Interested individuals can register online at https://pasture201seminar.eventbrite.com or download the brochure and registration form at www.ansc.umd.edu.
