The owner of a bay Quarter Horse mare found dead in her Anderson, S.C., pasture Friday morning said he believes the animal was killed with a captive bolt, the Independent Mail reported.

Horse owner Monte Beasley said the mare named Katie was out in her pasture when she was killed Thursday night.

“Whoever did this knew exactly what to do and how to do it,” Beasley told the paper.
