A California man is facing criminal charges for allegedly stealing five horses in Ventura County, Calif.

In a written statement, Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. John M. Franchi said that law enforcement personnel began investigating the case in February after a horse owner reported his animal missing. The owner later contacted the Sheriff’s Department after finding his horse and four miniature horses belonging to another owner in a horse stable, Franchi said. During a subsequent investigation, deputies recovered the five horses, collectively valued at $10,000, and a pair of saddles, collectively valued at $1,200; the recovered horses were returned to their owners, Franchi’s statement said.

Deputies later arrested Oscar Pina and charged him with possession of stolen property in connection with the incidents.
