The North Dakota Stockmen’s Association (NDSA) is offering a cash reward of more than $10,000 for information about the shooting and mutilation of a horse in Sioux County. The incident is the latest in a string of livestock killings in that county in recent weeks.

On Oct. 19, the registered blue roan Quarter Horse mare valued at $3,000 was grazing in her pasture when she was fatally shot then skinned. The mare was discovered in the same pasture where two head of cattle were injured by gunshot earlier in the week.

The NDSA, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, and other law enforcement agencies are investigating the horses death along with the killings of four cows and three bison and the disappearance of 30 head of cattle in recent weeks.

The crimes against livestock in this area over the last few weeks have been appalling, said NDSA Chief Brand Inspector Stan Misek, of Bismarck. We are working hard to identify those who are responsible, and would appreciate any information that the public may have to help us solve these cases and bring forth justice for the victims
