James N. Moore, DVM, PhD, one of the world’s foremost authorities on equine gastrointestinal disease, will present the Frank J. Milne State-of-the-Art Lecture at the American Association of Equine Practitioners’ (AAEP) 47th Annual Convention in San Diego, Calif., November 25-28.

Dr. Moore’s lecture, A New Look at Intestinal Displacements and Endotoxemia in Horses, will be presented in two parts. Part one will feature a series of three-dimensional, computer-generated images of the equine gastrointestinal tract under normal and abnormal conditions. Animations depict some of the more common intestinal displacements and emulate what might be palpated during a rectal examination of the horse.

Part two will focus on endotoxemia, providing the equine practitioner with a better understanding of this serious, life-threatening complication of many diseases. Recent findings from studies performed in university veterinary clinics around the world will be featured.

Dr. Moore has been department head of Large Animal Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia since 1995, and has a joint appointment as a professor in that department and the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology. In 1999 he received the World Veterinary Association Research Award.
