All horses and humans are safe following a weekend barn fire at Old Friends, a Thoroughbred retirement facility located in Georgetown, Kentucky.

Two horses—Alphabet Soup and Archie’s Echo—were in the quarantine/hospital barn when the structure went up in flames on Jan. 23, but two Old Friends volunteers were able to evacuate both animals.

"It’s a testament to our amazing staff," said Old Friends president Michael Blowen. "The horses in the barn got out without a scratch and everyone is all right, and that’s all that matters. The fire crews have been great and we’re grateful for all of their help today."

The barn fire occurred following a snow storm in the region. A blog post on Old Friends’ website said one firefighter sustained a knee injury due to icy conditions
