Saddlebred Rescue is asking all Saddlebred trainers, breeders and owners for their help in identifying rescued Saddlebred horses. The majority of the horses taken in by the rescue group are bought at auction. The horses are almost always put through auction without papers, and their identities are a mystery.

“We work hard to track down the pedigrees, but it can be like finding a needle in a hundred hay stacks,” said Christy Parker of Saddlebred Rescue. “We’ve had the best success when someone formerly involved with the horse sees a photo and recognizes it.”

When those missing identities are found, the results can be pleasantly surprising. Tami Webber of Cocoa Beach, Fla. rescued Anna Marie, a horse she thought was 10-years-old. When the papers surfaced, Webber discovered her 10-year-old mare was actually six with well-known horses up and down both sides of her pedigree.

“Every horse deserves to have its identity,” said Pat Johnson of Saddlebred Rescue. “To have its birthday celebrated, its registration recorded and its history known.” Johnson further explains that some of these rescued horses are suitable for the show ring and, with papers, could be shown again
