I fox hunt with stud nails, and on a different horse, I go on hound exercises w/small sq. road studs

12/20/2013 9:12:27 PM

I guess it would depend on how much riding you do during the winter.

12/20/2013 6:38:50 PM

Fronts are padded with snowball pads & shoes.

12/20/2013 5:55:55 PM

Tried pulling shoes for winter turnout but horses went sore right afterwards.

12/20/2013 5:51:53 PM

I am a barefoot trimmer, and have never used shoes

12/19/2013 10:29:28 PM

My horse goes barefoot with Hoof Armor!

12/19/2013 9:46:11 PM

Shoe only for multi-day endurance rides

12/19/2013 8:43:20 PM

Since I rarely ride my equines anymore and they live on good pasture, they go barefoot.

12/19/2013 8:32:21 PM

Borrium! Gottalove it!!!

12/19/2013 8:07:37 PM

barefoot is best-it is natural for horses

12/19/2013 7:47:50 PM

but with exceptions.

12/19/2013 7:23:42 PM

With the cost of shoeing and the fact that our horses aren't used much, we've gone to boots for each

12/19/2013 6:16:11 PM

barefoot is healthier

12/19/2013 5:38:34 PM

We western trail ride in the snow without shoes and just keep them trimmed until Spring.

12/19/2013 5:30:30 PM

Shoes were to correct thin soles & lameness under paddock conditions. next year no shoes I hope.

12/19/2013 5:08:16 PM

Unfortunately they have to stay on.

12/19/2013 4:39:48 PM

but they don't get ridden very much - otherwise they would have front shoes

12/19/2013 4:30:28 PM

However, this year my horse requires winter shoes due to hoof issues.

12/19/2013 4:15:20 PM

I feel it gives the hoof a chance to open up the heels and improve circulation.

12/19/2013 3:42:59 PM

I use shoes only to correct situations that cannot be managed with good trimming.

12/19/2013 11:46:16 AM

We pull the shoes in the winter months due to the ice balls frozen to their shoes.

12/19/2013 10:59:55 AM

used horses get drill tec and snow pads un used go bare foot

12/19/2013 8:46:56 AM

12/19/2013 12:09:12 AM

So far my horse is doing great with no shoes at all

12/18/2013 11:30:00 PM

Metal transfers cold. You try it. Not comfortable for me. Probably not comfortable for my horse.

12/18/2013 10:50:51 PM

bubble pads are wonderful on front hooves good for snow training

12/18/2013 10:45:01 PM

I ride with EZ Boot Gloves during the months that my horse in not shod.

12/18/2013 10:35:27 PM

Some of mine are shod for corrective reasons, that does not change due to weather.

12/18/2013 10:05:07 PM

Three horses at home. All three shoeless in winter

12/18/2013 9:44:56 PM

I have both barefoot and shod horses. If a shod horse can stand it, I pull shoes for a few months.

12/18/2013 9:08:21 PM

My laminitic horse will keep his shoes but the others will remain barefoot.

12/18/2013 8:47:36 PM

of my 3 1 is shod the other 2 no

12/18/2013 8:38:12 PM

we ride all winter as long as the footing remains good

12/18/2013 7:42:06 PM

My horse does fine going barefoot year round. We live in Florida so no sludgy snow problems.

12/18/2013 7:13:42 PM

We live below the snow belt & have good footing all winter.

12/18/2013 6:39:18 PM

I would shoe if conditions were icy, but otherwise no

12/18/2013 6:29:08 PM

Barefoot all the way.....24/7 :)

12/18/2013 5:52:18 PM

I am in N Arizona and get very little snow. Lots of jagged granite rocks too.

12/18/2013 4:30:33 PM

I use EZBoots with borium studs in the winter.

12/18/2013 3:15:35 PM

Barefoot is the only way!!! Shoes are not natural for a horse.

12/18/2013 3:01:59 PM

snow pads on the fronts

12/18/2013 2:54:52 PM

I barefoot trim my own horses :)

12/18/2013 2:45:21 PM

Depends on the horse and the work he is in however, would keep them if needed.

12/18/2013 2:39:23 PM

Horses are best of adjusting to snow, ice or slush in their natural feet.

12/18/2013 2:29:41 PM

Unless there is a specific medical reason for shoes, mine go barefoot.

12/18/2013 2:25:11 PM

Bare is best !

12/18/2013 2:16:31 PM

my horse is a 19 year old Arab mare and she has never worn shoes

12/18/2013 2:08:40 PM

I am fortunate to have a horse with great feet and be barefoot. Only needing a trim twice a year.

12/18/2013 1:55:44 PM

OTTB gelding w/ typical TB feet. Always shod all around & wears front pads to improve angles.

12/18/2013 1:51:43 PM

I am a certified trimmer from Russia. Previously I was a farrier, but now I know well how much damag

12/18/2013 1:21:56 PM

One of our horses has navicular. He remains shod all year around (only on the front) with snow pads.

12/18/2013 1:21:02 PM

In michigan snow balls are hard on the stability

12/18/2013 1:06:00 PM

I have 5 horses...2 need front shoes only the rest go barefoot.

12/18/2013 1:02:35 PM

Two have shoes pulled, three go barefoot year round.

12/18/2013 12:54:23 PM

Most of my ridden work is on roads and my horse wears studs as has huge feet to stop him slipping

12/18/2013 12:45:00 PM

Used to use bar shoes and pads on a navicular horse - horrible in the winter with ice balls!!!

12/18/2013 12:42:35 PM

Shoeing is a medieval practice that needs to stop. It is extremely harmful to horses' health.

12/18/2013 12:42:07 PM

I find it more cost effective and you don't have to worry about losing a shoe.

12/18/2013 12:41:23 PM

In California we ride year round so shoes stay on all year.

12/18/2013 12:32:43 PM

No snow and we are in light & full work. Season ended Nov 3, starts back up at the end of January.

12/18/2013 12:23:25 PM

I live in southern California. We ride as usual all year long.

12/18/2013 12:23:15 PM

only had my boy 6 mnths was shoed before i got him and farrier advised me to only shoe when working

12/18/2013 12:18:00 PM

Only one is shod, and his shoes get pulled. Not a "Barefoot" advocate, mine don't need shoes.

12/18/2013 12:12:07 PM

One horse was shod all year round but hasnt been for 3 years now and a 7year old alway is barefoot

12/18/2013 12:08:07 PM

Only this year because she has LLD and we are trying to correct it.

12/18/2013 12:03:53 PM

One barefoot all year the other front shoes with studs and pads for traction

12/18/2013 11:53:28 AM

Good feet, good nutrition, good area=no shoes

12/18/2013 11:42:13 AM

Each horse is different. Some are shoeless and one has all shoes, one has just fronts with snowpads.

12/18/2013 10:56:18 AM

If they have shoes normally, they stay in shoes. If they're barefoot normally, they remain barefoot.

12/18/2013 10:48:56 AM

One horse might benefit from shoes once I begin riding him. My farrier will know.

12/18/2013 10:43:35 AM

I bought my horse with a full set, had them pulled ASAP!

12/18/2013 10:24:24 AM

My horse has shoes with pads on front only.

12/18/2013 7:43:01 AM

My dressage horses stay barefoot; it's a ridiculous myth that riding horses must be shod.

12/18/2013 7:30:46 AM

What winter? I live in Tucson.

12/18/2013 6:47:50 AM

where i live in australia it never snows, so my horses have shoes year around.

12/18/2013 5:57:04 AM

Winter is when I ride the most. Summers can be too hot.

12/18/2013 5:25:16 AM

Front shoes remain on for navicular syndrome

12/17/2013 10:19:34 PM

Some of mine are shod and we remove their shoes in winter. Others are barefoot year round.

12/17/2013 9:07:58 PM

Shoes are bandaid, not solution to hoof issues. If foot protection needed, boots are available

12/17/2013 8:55:31 PM

I have both one horse with shoes on year round I one barefoot year round

12/17/2013 8:31:35 PM

All 3 of my geldings are barefoot

12/17/2013 6:14:18 PM

I shoe my own horses as that's my profession so they stay shod in case I have time to ride

12/17/2013 6:14:05 PM

Don't ride at all in the Winter. Too Cold and Miserable.

12/17/2013 5:50:39 PM

Too many rocks here, so shoes on fronts all year.

12/17/2013 5:42:46 PM

My horse has special front hoof problems, so he needs his "orthopedic" shoes year round.

12/17/2013 5:37:23 PM

I wish I could leave them barefoot, but they are tender-soled.

12/17/2013 5:34:40 PM

Pull all except our stallion, he gets sore in front without them. Big wimp!

12/17/2013 5:01:33 PM

San Diego weather is pretty much the same year round.

12/17/2013 4:46:06 PM

The main foxhunter is shod until his shoes are pulled in summer. Retiree and new guy go barefoot.

12/17/2013 4:28:55 PM

natural hooves that is what nature intended? Barefoot all the way!!

12/17/2013 3:16:00 PM

Don't ride hard enough in the winter to need shoes.

12/17/2013 1:36:56 PM

I pull the shoes in the winter. but if the horse can't survive with shoes my farrier adds traction.

12/17/2013 1:08:02 PM

Front only because of earlier founder

12/17/2013 11:55:14 AM

Even when jumping! He can't keep a shoe on!

12/17/2013 10:35:35 AM

Arizona-ride year round, also hooves break up badly w/o protection of shoes

12/17/2013 9:02:09 AM

I use old Mac's boots with studs when we ride outside.

12/17/2013 6:02:22 AM

unless the horse requires shoes to stay in lessons

12/17/2013 12:28:34 AM
