The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), will begin a wild horse gather in the Reveille herd management area (HMA) on Jan. The Reveille HMA is located about 50 miles east of Tonopah in Nye County, Nevada.

The BLM said the HMA’s wild horse population is currently above the appropriate management level (AML) of 138 wild horses, established through the Final Multiple Use Decision in June 2001. To achieve the AML, BLM will gather 140 to 160 wild horses, removing 80 and releasing between 60 to 80 back onto the range after fertility control treatment.

The public is welcome to attend the helicopter gather. For additional gather information, including what you need to know before attending the gather, visitation protocols, and ground rules, go to bit.ly/2iVnqFi and look under the “Downloads” section on the right-hand side of the webpage.

With gather operations being weather-dependent and having the potential to change with little or no notice, it is important that those interested in attending the gather call the hotline at 775/861-6700 on the evening before they plan to attend. The hotline will provide information about the next day’s departure time, directions to the meeting place, and updates on gather operations/progress
