Many owners know that it’s not always easy to plan a vacation for more than a couple days away from your horse. If you keep your horses at home or board them at a self-care facility, not only do you have to find someone that you trust to care for them while you are gone, but you also have countless chores to catch up and finish upon your return. If you board at a full-care facility, it’s typically a bit easier, but worry about your horse’s condition can sometimes set in once you’ve left town.

How do you typically use your vacation time? We posed this question to our readers in last week’s online poll. More than 550 people responded, and we’ve tallied the results!

Of the 571 respondents, 249 (44%) said they spend their vacation days at home with their horses doing horse-related chores around their property. Another 99 individuals (17%) said they use their vacation days to go camping, trail riding, or visit bed-and-breakfasts with their horses. Some 88 respondents (15%) said they use their vacation days for horse shows and/or clinics, while another 48 (8%) said they go on vacations that include horse-related trips and activities where horses are provided. The remaining 87 respondents (15%) said they did not use their vacation days for horse-related trips.
