Trailer Accident Kills Tennessee Walking Horses, Trainer

Tennessee Walking Horse trainer Jeffrey Givens and three Tennessee Walking Horses were killed Oct. 6 when their truck and trailer overturned on Interstate 71 in Gallatin County, Ky. Givens’ assistant, Tim Taylor, was also injured in the incident.

Gallatin County Sheriff Josh Neale said that county police began receiving 911 calls about the accident around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6. Neale said Givens was hauling a 40-foot long horse trailer containing six Tennessee Walking Horses en route from a horse show on I-71 when the incident occurred.

“The trailer just hit the guardrail and jackknifed,” Neale said. “The truck and (trailer) flipped.”

Rain and slick conditions are blamed for the incident, he said
