California EHV: No New Cases Confirmed

Some quarantines remain in place at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, in Los Angeles County, and in Inyo County.

The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) said Dec. 19 that no new cases of equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) had been confirmed in either of the two current outbreaks in that state.

In Los Angeles County, Barn C and the isolation area set up at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center (LAEC) remain quarantined, and horses residing in those areas continued to have their temperatures taken twice daily.

“The last febrile case occurred on Dec. 12,” the CDFA said. “There are currently four horses in isolation and diagnostic testing indicates (that) three of these horses are no longer shedding the virus. One horse continues to shed virus and will be re-sampled for EHV-1.

“Currently, none of the four horses in isolation are febrile and none are showing neurologic signs,” the agency continued. “Quarantine release will be based on no additional cases and horses in isolation testing negative
