Animal health officials in Minnesota have reported additional equine cases of West Nile virus (WNV), the Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) reported.

On Sept 2, the EDCC reported that an unvaccinated 8-year-old Paint mare from Becker County was confirmed positive. The mare, which began showing clinical signs on Aug. 30, was reportedly recovering and able to stand and eat on her own.

Additionally, on Sept. 7, the EDCC reported that a 3-year-old Shire filly, located in Goodhue County, tested positive for the virus. She reportedly began showing clinical signs on Aug. 30, and the week before clinical signs were seen the filly was at the Iowa State Fair, the EDCC said. The filly was unvaccinated and is currently recovering, the center reported.

There are now 14 cases of WNV in Minnesota horses this year
