Beating the heat is the goal for Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program (FLTAP), and with a recent $2,000 grant from the American Humane Association's Meacham Foundation Memorial, the Purple Haze Center will accomplish just that.

Sixteen individual hard-wired fans will be installed above each of the horse stalls in the Purple Haze Center, the state-of-the-art horse adoption barn on the property of Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack in Farmington, N.Y.

FLTAP, through collaboration with Finger Lakes management and horsemen, aides in providing retired race horses a second chance at a productive life, and with the help of the fans, horses awaiting adoption will stay cool throughout the summer months. "Professionally installed fans will be pointed directly at each individual horse to keep them cool," stated FLTAP Board President Brian Moore. "We are thankful for the grant from the Meacham Foundation Memorial to help with this project. Grants are an essential part of our daily operations because they help us to provide our horses the opportunity at a second chance
