Old Friends, the Thoroughbred retirement center in Georgetown, Kentucky, has announced that Charismatic, the 1999 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner and Horse of the Year, is coming home.

The now 20-year-old stallion will return to the United States from the JBBA Shizunai Stallion Station in Japan, where he has stood since 2002, sometime in late November, and will be pensioned at Old Friends.

His journey is being sponsored in large part by a gift from his former owners through the Robert and Beverly Lewis Family Foundation, and from Austin, Texas-based Tito’s Handmade Vodka.

This marks the third Kentucky Derby winner that Old Friends has repatriated from Japan. In 2014 the farm welcomed 1997 champion Silver Charm (also owned by the Lewis family), and the following year 2002 winner War Emblem arrived at the farm. With Charismatic’s arrival, Old Friends will become one of the only farms in the country to be home to three Kentucky Derby winners
