Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. (BIVI) has selected five studies to fund in 2015 as part of its Equine Research Award program. Researchers will continue to focus on equine infectious diseases, a topic also featured in the 2013 awards.

“We are now in our fifth year of funding research and we were very pleased to see that the equine community is still very interested in submitting proposals for consideration,” said Steve Grubbs, DVM, PhD, Dipl. ACVIM, BIVI equine technical manager. “Not only are we receiving more and more proposals but the quality of the proposals is making harder each year to select winners”

Each researcher will receive a grant of $15,000 to study the diagnosis, pathogenesis, transmission, control, and/or prevention of equine infectious diseases during 2015. An independent panel of equine practitioners, university professors, and veterinary medical researchers selected the recipients from among numerous proposals. The awards were announced at the recent American Association of Equine Practitioners Annual Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah
